Foot Bridge Solution

A FOOTBRIDGE is an extremely positive approach to alleviate traffic on Moraga Rd. during the "shared commute" -- 7:45am-8:35am, and 2:15-3:30pm

 

A footbridge crossing Moraga Road at School St. is the ONLY solution to decongest traffic, and greatly minimize pedestrian hazard. Other costly proposals considered by the city will only add to congestion and driver frustration as well as impose more student/ped safety hazards. REMEMBER:

---With pedestrians crossing at Brook St. every 90 seconds for 50 minutes, traffic congests on Moraga Rd. and drivers are frustrated with many long days of commuting. A footbridge will eliminate this.

---Good news is the "block scheduling" HAS helped with traffic reduction this year, on some days. 

---Pedestrians will stay safe on a footbridge built for their safety over a very busy road. A footbridge is a necessary footprint that should only be considered the footprints of happy feet, and happy drivers.

---This plan made it to the short list of strategies after it received the only ovation at a public outreach meeting. Unfortunately and for no apparent reason it was short lived, and needs the support and power of the people to get it back on the table before the city council opts to go with the other strategies which will only add to the traffic problems. 

GET THIS ROAD ALIGNMENT OFF THE TABLE QUICKLY:

The negative strategy IS an alignment of Brook St with School St. A very unnecessary footprint damaging a somewhat peaceful kid-friendly neighborhood -- as Brook St. would become a thoroughfare nightmare, as well as a risk for pedestrians, namely our children. Brook St. has already seen the effects of becoming known. No longer a secret passageway, it can take 5 lights to get through Brook St intersection at Moraga Rd. in the mornings now. It'll only get worse as more folks will opt to drive their students IF the road becomes aligned with School St. It'll still be dangerous to walk across Moraga Rd. and  the walking artery to school WILL become more hazardous. 

 AN ALIGNMENT IS NOT A POSITIVE SOLUTION IN THE LEAST

BUT A FOOTBRIDGE WILL POSITIVELY AFFECT EVERYONE FROM MORAGA & ORINDA TO LAFAYETTE 

A footbridge will have parents letting their kids safely WALK to school. Less cars on the road that way!!!
